       Greentree Systems Inc., Pacific Grove, CA—Maintained, enhanced, and documented the Resume Analyzer component of the Greentree Employment System. Continued to maintain installs.
 
Q/A Analyst / Install Developer10/99 - 2/01
       Greentree Systems Inc., Pacific Grove, CA—Responsible for designing and coding both the server and client installs for Greentree Systems' new Microsoft SQL Server-based product. The client install was developed with InstallShield for Windows Installer. (-)
    The server install:
  • Was implemented with InstallShield Professional 6, InstallDialogue custom dialogs, custom VB DLLs, customized C/C++ DLLs, and VBScript.
  • Verifies all necessary third-party products are installed on the target system and installs redistributable third-party components as necessary (e.g., MDAC, Crystal Reports, Pixtran).
  • Allows for both:
    • Stand-alone and distributed installation: Business Servers, Webs, Database, and Report Service components can each be installed on separate servers.
    • First-time installation and the updating of existing installations.
  • Automates installation and/or configuration of:
    • SQL Server database via SQL-DMO
    • 65+ business servers (VB DLLs) in MTS
    • Webs in IIS
    • DCOM
    • Registry security
    • User accounts & user privileges
    • Report Service
  • Logs parameter values and the success or failure of important install functions.
Server builds are automated using Mobi-Sys Visual Make and batch scripts to interface with SourceSafe and InstallShield. In addition, the build procedure and common install modification procedures are well documented so that others can build/modify the install as needed.

Prior to those projects:

  • Maintained a suite of InstallShield 5.5 installs for MS Access-based products.
  • Upgraded the base Access product install to InstallShield 6.
  • Configured Windows NT and 9x systems (hardware & software) to troubleshoot bugs and test new software.
  • Wrote release notes and managed bug reports with the Problem-Tracker database.
  • Determined when a product revision could be released, i.e., verified important fixes had been effected without causing new issues.
  • Wrote scripts to automate software testing with Rational Visual Test.
  • Evaluated new technologies and software products to determine if they should be used. E.g., Windows Installer; Automated build software.
  • Recommended/selected new hardware for purchase when necessary.
  • Provided basic system administration for office LAN (PDC, DNS, Proxy Server, & Exchange Server configuration, and network wiring).
This position involved working closely with the product's developers. Occasionally direct interaction with customers and customer service was necessary for troubleshooting or supporting beta product.
